Siege Warfare: Defense of Camelot
Status: Post-Production
Players: 2-6
Genre: Strategy, turn-based
Intro
40 years after Arthur pulled the sword from the stone, his kingdom is anything but secure. Looking out from Camelot’s highest tower, he’s taunted by black banners. It’s been 100 days since Mordred the Usurper besieged Arthur’s last stronghold in a bloody battle for the throne. Arthur’s eyes turn from the wooden walls of Mordred’s siege camp to the long line of catapults bombarding Camelot’s once proud walls.
A hail of bolts from red clad crossbowmen forces what few defenders were left to take cover behind the tattered walls. But this is just the first move in Mordred’s great assault. Under the cover of his crossbowmen, Mordred’s strongest warriors push a massive ram towards Camelot’s battered gate. The Black Knight commands them, his massive mace shining in the bloody sunset. The last line of defense is on the verge of collapse.
Yet Arthur still has tricks left to play. Camelot’s gatekeepers have a little boiling oil left. Behind the gate, Sir Lancelot and the Knights of the Round Table are mounted in full armor, ready to sweep aside the countless black banners. Merlin looks on from Camelot’s keep, where the wounded have already resolved to rejoin the struggle.
Arthur’s aged left hand gently caresses Guinevere’s golden hair, as she stands beside him clad like a shieldmaiden of Celtic legend. Arthur’s right hand grasps the familiar steel of Excalibur’s cold hilt. His men are ready to fight to the last. Victory or death, the true king prepares to join the fray…
Gameplay
Siege Warfare is an Arthurian strategy battle game for 2-6 players that combines deckbuilding with tabletop tactics. As this game is ready for publication, most details are highly confidential.
In the ultimate struggle for survival, players must capture their opponent’s castle before their own falls. Acting as medieval lords, players build armies while fortifying their own stronghold. Numbers aren’t everything - some units can turn the tide singlehandedly. With his legendary Excalibur, Arthur can punch through enemy lines. Mordred’s aura of hatred can force once brave knights to cower before him.
Production began in 2018. We have play tested thousands of games. Playtest data has been used to mathematically optimize balance. Two extensions are in playtesting and two more are in active development.
The core theme of the game is Nature vs Industry in a medieval/fantasy setting. Forces of Good use the beauty of nature to bolster the strength of their heroes. Forces of Evil harness the scourge of industry to mobilize huge armies. Players will learn that true power comes from loving what we protect.
